The German dramedy series Oh Hell focuses on Helene (Mala Emde), who is in her mid-twenties and who is not nicknamed “Hell” for nothing. Her life is anything but relaxed, Helen jumps from one job to the next and privately she keeps stumbling into big and small blunders. For example, she helped her parents get divorced. Sometimes she wishes she were like her best friend Maike (Salka Weber), who travels the world and has already had some successes professionally. When she meets the cello teacher Oskar (Edin Hasanović), something like consistency seems to develop for the first time. But can “Hell” lead a quiet and happy life – and does she even want it?
Episode 1 – “Kalifornien”
Twenty-something Helene leads a chaotic life between daydreams and her job as a kindergarten teacher, where she becomes friends with the stubborn Madlen. Recently terminated, Helene is looking for a new perspective and finds it even more difficult to assert herself in front of her influencer friend Maike. She tries to compete with her by telling lies. This includes an alleged romance with the musician Oskar. When arranging a first meeting with him, she is not completely honest.
Episode 2 – “Exam”
Helene came under pressure in her new job in the call center on the very first day when her father called her to tell her that he wanted to visit her when she was supposed to be taking her exams at the university. In a panic, she does everything she can to keep up appearances. When she was eleven, she uncovered her parents’ broken relationship. Since the divorce that followed, her father has been her biggest fan in the fight against aging. In the evening, he surprises her with a special gift.
